Pregnancy massage is a gift of time, space, relaxation and relief for any expecting mum.
Women endure a number of physical strains as their bodies go through significant changes from the conception to the birth of their babies. Massage is the perfect antidote to relieving the aches, pains and other common health issues experienced during pregnancy. The gentle, warming strokes - which are rooted in holistic/Swedish massage - help to support, relieve and relax the body, indirectly feeding these beneficial effects to the unborn baby. Research shows that an unborn baby can be affected by the stress levels of its mother, therefore, as a pregnant woman relaxes during a massage, her unborn baby experiences these relaxing effects too. Further, the mother releases Oxytocin and Prolactin as a result of skin stimulation. Oxytocin is known as the "Love Hormone". It also helps during the progression of labour, expels the placenta after birth and promotes feelings of attachment and bonding between mother and baby. Prolactin prepares the body for breastfeeding by stimulating milk production.
As well as the physiological benefits, massage provides a dedicated time and space for the mother to unwind and to connect with herself and her baby, whilst helping to prepare her body and mind for the magical and challenging process of labour.
